Who is the guest speaker?

Assemblyman Joel Anderson

District 77

El Cajon, La Mesa, San Diego, Santee, Jamul, Lakeside, Ramona, Alpine, Borrego Springs

The proof of Joel Anderson’s total commitment to honesty, integrity and hard work isn’t in what he says.  They’re in the record of accomplishment he’s achieved.

As President of the Padre Dam Municipal Water district, he led the fight to cut waste and became a Golden Watchdog Award finalist.  He was San Diego County Co-Chair of Senator Tom McClintock’s “Repeal the Car Tax” Committee.  He was the Bush/Cheney 2004 San Diego County Conservative Chairman.  In the California State Assembly, he’s authored legislation as varied as divesting California’s public retirement funds from countries doing business in Iran, to expanding the hours of San Diego’s Transportation Management Center to alleviate traffic congestion.  And of great importance to staffing companies, he was a real champion of our bill on payment of wages.

He graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.

Why should I come to this event?

We anticipate that Legislative Day will be at a crucial time in the Legislature for SB 940 (Yee), the bill making it clear that the L'Oreal decision requiring the payment of wages after the completion of each employee's assignment does not apply to the temporary staffing industry.  There have already been seven class action lawsuits filed against staffing firms under the court case, and the entire industry is in jeopardy if the bill does not pass.  We need your help in lobbying your legislator when you come to Sacramento. A strong turn-out will tell the Legislature that passing the bill is essential to your ability to provide jobs for their constituents. Come help protect your business.

What is the fee to participate, and what is included?

Everything that takes place during the program is included in the price (lunch, materials and talking points, speaker, and evening cocktails and hors d’oeuvres).

$59 CSP members • $89 non-members

How can I register to attend?

Mail or fax the registration form at the bottom of this document with your credit card information or check (do not send credit card information in the body of an email or as an attachment).  For secure online credit card registration simply go to http://www.cspnet.org/news/legislative.cfm and click on the appropriate link.

How can I find out who my legislator is?

Click here (or if you browser doesn’t support HTML, copy and paste the following website into your browser:  http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html).  Then simply type in your residence zip code and you will get the name and contact information for your legislators.

How can I set up an appointment with my legislator?

The easiest way to schedule an appointment is to call the Capitol office at the Sacramento phone number of your legislators (see above) and ask to speak to the scheduler.  Introduce yourself as a constituent who will be in Sacramento on March 25 for the California Staffing Professionals Legislative Day and that you would like to meet with the legislator to introduce yourself, your industry, and discuss state issues of concern.  Your appointment should be made well in advance of March 25.  Legislators’ schedules fill quickly!  Many schedulers request that appointment requests be made in writing.  These typically can be emailed or faxed and should be done right away.  When making the appointment, it would also be a good time to ask if the legislator already has the reception on his/her calendar.  The key to attendance at the reception is your phone call prior to Legislative Day and follow-up during your appointment.  Legislators and staff need to hear that you care about their attendance the same way they need to hear that you care about legislation.

If I want to spend the night, does CSP have a room block?  Where can I stay?

We do have a block of rooms at the Sheraton Grand for $179 (based upon availability).  The deadline for this rate is Friday, February 22, 2008.  The Sheraton Grand is located at 1230 J St. (corner of 13th and J), within walking distance of the State Capitol.  Their phone number is 916-447-1700.

How do I get from the airport to the hotel?

There are Super Shuttles, you can carpool with others, or simply take a taxi.
